Control Arm Fastener may Fail

If the fasteners were to fail causing the knuckle to separate, vehicle handling may be affected, increasing the risk of a crash.

 

Summary

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport vehicles manufactured May 30, 2016, to August 24, 2016, and 2016-2017 Range Rover Evoque vehicles manufactured June 7, 2016, to August 26, 2016.

The affected vehicles have front lower control arm fasteners that may fail due to an assembly error, possibly resulting in separation of the steering knuckle.

‘Squeak’ Noise From Steering Column / Steering Gear Pinion Seal

CONDITION SUMMARY:

Situation: A ‘squeak’ noise may be evident from the steering column area when turning the steering wheel.

Cause: This may be caused by a lack of lubrication of the steering gear pinion seal.

NOTE: check the vehicle history to see if the vehicle falls within the affected VIN range in Technical Bulletin LTB00021NAS and whether or not it has been performed. If it has not been performed, follow the Repair Procedure outlined in that bulletin as a separate Warranty claim and recheck for a ‘squeak’ before performing this bulletin. This Service Instruction addresses a ‘squeak’ noise only.

CONDITION SUMMARY:

Situation: The Dynamic Response system red warning lamp may be illuminated on the Instrument Cluster and Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) C1119-62, C1119-09, and/or C1B11-62 may be stored, possibly indicating system contamination.

This Technical Bulletin provides a process for Retailers to correctly diagnose Dynamic Response system contamination, to identify if an actuator has failed, and to determine which parts may require replacement. A flushing procedure is provided to clean the affected parts that do not need to be replaced and ensure that the issue does not re-occur.

Action: Should a customer express concern, use SDD to establish which actuator is at fault and carry out the flush and repair procedure by following the Service Instruction outlined below.
