If the parking lamps turn off, the vehicle will have reduced conspicuity, increasing the risk of a crash.

 

Summary

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Jaguar) is recalling certain model year 2012-2015 Jaguar XK vehicles manufactured March 4, 2011, to March 20, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the front side lamps (parking lamps) may turn off after approximately 5 minutes. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”

 

Remedy

Jaguar will notify owners, and dealers will update software that controls the front side lamps, free of charge. The recall began March 5, 2015. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827. Jaguar’s number for this recall is J049.

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC has informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of its intent to perform a Non-Compliance Recall on certain 2012-2015 model year Jaguar XK vehicles imported into the United States market. Information relating to the Recall will be posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.

United States Federal regulations require that retailers must be advised of this Recall notification within three working days after government notification.

United States Federal law requires retailers to complete any outstanding safety Recall service before a new vehicle is delivered to the buyer or lessee. Violation of this requirement by a retailer could result in a civil penalty of up to $7,000.00 per vehicle.

This Recall Service Bulletin serves as notification to all Jaguar retailers in the United States and Puerto Rico that any affected new vehicles may not be sold and delivered for customer use until the Recall repair is completed.

 

AFFECTED VEHICLES 

A total of 4,787 vehicles are affected.

The VIN range of affected vehicles is SAJWA4GB2CLB43352-SAJWA4GB1FLB56792 (select vehicles within this VIN range).

 

DESCRIPTION

A non-compliance issue has been identified on a limited number of 2012-2015 model year Jaguar XK (X150) vehicles where the front side lights, when used as parking lamps, will extinguish in error after approximately five (5) minutes.

Where the side lights are switched on with the ignition off, the front lights should remain illuminated (until the battery is exhausted). On these vehicles, the front side lights when operated in this manner will only remain on until the Central Junction Box (CJB) enters sleep mode. They will then turn off.

 

EFFECT ON VEHICLE OPERATION

Vehicles in this condition will not comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 108 – Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment. Non-functioning parking lamps may increase the risk of a vehicle being involved in a crash.

 

SERVICE PROGRAM / REWORK ACTION

Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a Jaguar retailer who will update the vehicle’s Central Junction Box (CJB) to the latest software. There will be no charge to owners for this action.

 

OWNER NOTIFICATION

Owner notification is expected to occur on or before 13 March 2015, in order to meet Federal requirements, a copy of this letter is attached.

 

ACTION TO BE TAKEN

Check DDW to ensure that the vehicle is affected by this program (J049) prior to undertaking any rework action.

Retailers are required to HOLD only affected new vehicles that are within your control and refrain from releasing the vehicles for new vehicle sale pending completion of the rework action.

Sold vehicles will be subject to the standard Recall notification and Recall bulletin process detailing the action required for vehicles in the hands of owners.

Retailers are advised that the use of vehicles as Sales Demonstrator or Service Loaner vehicles may be considered a violation of Federal legislation. Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC recommends against using affected vehicles for demonstrator or loaner purposes. Please consult your own legal counsel if you have questions in this regard.

At the time of confirming a booking for vehicle repair, ensure that all outstanding Service Actions are identified to ensure the correct parts are available and adequate workshop time is allocated for repairs to be completed at one visit.

Warranty claims must be submitted quoting Program Code ‘J049’ together with the relevant Option Code from the table. The SRO and part information listed have been included for information only.

The Option Code(s) that allows for the drive in/ drive out allowance may only be claimed if the vehicle is brought into the workshop for this action alone to be undertaken.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Jaguar is carrying out a recall of the vehicles mentioned above. An authorized Jaguar retailer will update your vehicle’s Central Junction Box software to the latest level.

There will be no charge for this repair.

 

What should you do?

Please contact your authorized Jaguar retailer at your earliest convenience to schedule an appointment beginning the week of March 23, 2015,to have Recall Action J049 completed on your vehicle.

 

How long will it take?

The work will be carried out as quickly and efficiently as possible in order to minimize inconvenience to customers and is expected to take approximately 30 minutes, although your retailer may need your vehicle for a longer time due to service scheduling requirements.

Attention Leasing Agencies: Federal regulations require that you forward this recall notification to the lessee within TEN days.

CONDITION SUMMARY:

Situation: A non-compliance issue has been identified on a limited number of 2012-2015 model year Jaguar XK (X150) vehicles where the front side lights, when used as parking lamps, will extinguish in error after approximately five (5) minutes.

Vehicles in this condition will not comply with the requirements of the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 108 – Lighting System and Retro Reflective Devices [Canada] and the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 108 – Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment [USA].

Action: Retailers are required to HOLD only affected new vehicles that are within your control and refrain from releasing the vehicles for new vehicle sale pending completion of the rework action detailed in this Technical Bulletin. Unsold vehicles should have this performed as part of the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) process but must have it completed prior to vehicle handover to the customer.

Affected vehicles already in the hands of customers should be updated at the next available opportunity.

JLR Symptom Driven Diagnostics (SDD) for Independent Repairers: Diagnostic Software / Module programming subscriptions – without security access – can be purchased via TOPIx (From the User ID – Options Menu – Programming subscriptions – click add). Module programming – with security access – is necessary to program the IPC, BCM, ECM (PCM), KVM, as well as keys. Licensed locksmiths and independent repairers must be active members of the National Automotive Service Task Force (NASTF) Vehicle Security Professional (VSP) registry and will need to purchase a subscription to Independent Module Programming with Security Access to program these components.
