Instrument Cluster Will Go Blank

A blank instrument cluster will not show important information like vehicle speed, increasing the risk of a crash.

 

Summary

JaguareBay logo Land RovereBay logo North America, LLC (Land RovereBay logo) is recalling certain 2017 Land RovereBay logo Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles. The instrument cluster (IC) may intermittently go blank.

 

Remedy

Land RovereBay logo will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle software, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin December 19, 2017. Owners may contact Land RovereBay logo customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land RovereBay logo’s number for this recall is N124.

JaguareBay logo Land RovereBay logo North America, LLC has informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of its intent to perform a Safety Recall on certain 2017 model year Land RovereBay logo vehicles imported into the United States market. Information relating to this Recall will be posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.

United States Federal regulations require that retailers must be notified within a reasonable time after the manufacturer decides that a defect that relates to motor vehicle safety or a noncompliance exists.

United States Federal law requires retailers to complete any outstanding Safety Recall service before a new vehicle is delivered to the buyer or lessee. Violation of this requirement by a retailer could result in a civil penalty of up to $21,000.00 per vehicle.

This Recall Service Bulletin serves as notification to all retailers in the United States and Federalized Territories that any affected new vehicles may not be sold and delivered for customer use until the Recall repair is completed.

EFFECT ON VEHICLE OPERATION

Without the Instrument Cluster displaying important information such as the vehicle’s speed, there would be an increased risk of a crash.

 

SERVICE PROGRAM / REWORK ACTION

Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to an authorized retailer who will download the latest software to the vehicle. 

There will be no charge to owners for this action.

 

OWNER NOTIFICATION

Owner notification is expected to occur on or before 19 December 2017.

Check DDW to ensure that the vehicle is affected by this Program prior to undertaking any rework action.

Retailers are required to HOLD affected new vehicles that are within your control and refrain from releasing the vehicles for new vehicle sale pending completion of the rework action. Affected vehicles already in the hands of customers should be updated at the next available opportunity.

AThe supplier of the Instrument Cluster has revealed that one of the microchips included in the cluster which regulates voltage supply was supplied to them with the wrong specifications stated from the microchip supplier. This incorrect specification chip fails to operate in all of the installed conditions experienced in the Instrument Cluster. The voltage supply monitoring software incorrectly senses a fault condition where no genuine fault is present.

An issue has been identified on certain vehicles within the listed Affected Vehicle Range where the Virtual Instrument Cluster (IC) has been going blank intermittently. The IC will not display anything in this condition but will reset while driving.

Without the IC displaying important information such as the vehicle’s speed, there would be an increased risk of a crash.

 

ACTION:

Retailers are required to HOLD affected new vehicles that are within your control and refrain from releasing the vehicles for new vehicle sale pending completion of the Diagnostic Procedure detailed in this Technical Bulletin. Unsold vehicles should have this performed as part of the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) process but must have it completed prior to vehicle handover to the customer.

Affected vehicles already in the hands of customers should be updated at the next available opportunity.

This Diagnostic Procedure is only for vehicles requiring the JaguareBay logo Land RovereBay logo-approved diagnostic tool with PATHFINDER.

CAUTIONS:
  • A JaguareBay logo Land RovereBay logo-approved Midtronics battery power supply must be connected to the vehicle battery during diagnosis / module programming.
  • All ignition ON/OFF requests must be carried out; failure to perform these steps may cause damage to control modules in the vehicle.

Connect the JaguareBay logo Land RovereBay logo-approved Midtronics battery power supply to the vehicle battery.

NOTE:
The Jaguar Land Rover-approved diagnostic tool must be loaded with PATHFINDER version 137 (or later).

 

Connect the JaguareBay logo Land RovereBay logo-approved diagnostic tool to the vehicle and begin a new session.

NOTE:
The JaguareBay logo Land RovereBay logo-approved diagnostic tool will read the correct Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) for the current vehicle and automatically take the vehicle out of Transit mode if required.

Reprogramming

JLR Symptom Driven Diagnostics (SDD) for Independent Repairers: Diagnostic Software / Module programming subscriptions - without security access - can be purchased via TOPIx (From the User ID - Options Menu – Programming subscriptions – click add). Module programming - with security access - is necessary to program the IPC, BCM, ECM (PCM), KVM, as well as keys. Licensed locksmiths and independent repairers must be active members of the National Automotive Service Task Force (NASTF) Vehicle Security Professional (VSP) registry and will need to purchase a subscription to Independent Module Programming with Security Access to program these components. Currently we are only able to support yearly module programming subscriptions with security access. SDD will only support JaguareBay logo vehicles built from 1995 MY onward.
