Production Dates : JAN 04, 2023 – MAY 31, 2023 VIN Range 1 : Begin : SALEPFEU9P2183695 End : SALEPFEU1P2233117 Not sequential Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : A concern has been identified on certain 2023MY Land Rover Defender 130 Vehicles that have been modified as part of the preparations for JLR North Americas TReK event. During the vehicle modification for the TReK event, reinstallation of brake callipers did not follow the published repair procedure. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : If the brake callipers are not installed following the published repair procedure, there is a risk the callipers may detach, resulting in degraded braking performance and possible structural damage to the wheel, increasing the risk of a crash. Description of the Cause : NR Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : NR Involved Components : Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-789 Page 2 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Component Name 1 : Brake Calliper Bolts Component Description : Brake Calliper Bolts Component Part Number : LR033274, SYG000013 Supplier Identification : Component Manufacturer Name : Jaguar Land Rover North America LLC Address : 100 Jaguar Land Rover Way Mahwah New Jersey 07495 Country : United States Chronology : The JLR TRek event is an event held uniquely in the USA & Canada by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) North America. In 2023 this event features locally modified Land Rover Defender 130 vehicles. During the September 2023 JLR North America TReK event, a vehicle was reported to have suffered brake calliper detachment, this vehicle was subject to a field inspection, and the issue was reported through JLR’s Critical concerns reporting process. JLR opened a Product Safety and Compliance Committee (PSCC) investigation on October 20, 2023. The JLR North America team were assigned responsibility for the investigation and were tasked to define the scope of this issue, determine if the condition found has any special causes and report the status to the PSCC. They reported their initial findings to the PSCC on October 24, 2023. The PSCC requested further evaluation of the scope and rationale for the basis of this scope. This was further reviewed at PSCC on October 31, 2023 and November 7, 2023. At the PSCC of November 14, 2023, the scope was discussed and the vehicle disposition confirmed. Based on the feedback provided, the PSCC progressed the issue to the Recall Determination Committee (RDC) for review. The RDC reviewed the issue on November 16, 2023 and concluded that it represented an unreasonable risk to safety and a voluntary safety recall should be conducted. There have been no reported accidents, injuries or fires as a result of this concern. JLR has received one field report of this condition in the United States. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-789 Page 3 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Vehicles will have their brake callipers removed and reinstalled following the correct procedure. There will be no charge to the owners for this repair. The affected vehicles will be covered under Land Rover’s new vehicle warranty program. Therefore, reimbursement for pre-notice remedies are not necessary because the affected vehicles are still under warranty.
