Chronology :
A Product Safety and Compliance Committee (PSCC) investigation was opened on 17 November 2023 following an internal report of non-display of the brake pad wear indicator on the instrument cluster.
The PSCC requested a team of engineers investigate this matter and report to PSCC the status of their investigations. Between 17 November 2023 and 27 February 2024, the issue was regularly at the PSCC with reviews of the technical system operation as well as understanding if there was a pattern and trend relating to this matter.
At the PSCC of 27 February 2024, the PSCC discussed the scope of this issue and markets where there is a requirement for the pad wear sensor to operate. Based on the feedback provided the PSCC progressed the issue to the Recall Determination Committee (RDC) for review.
The RDC reviewed the issue on 07 March 2024 and concluded that the issue represented a failure to meet the regulated and certified performance standards for brake pad wear indicator and is therefore a defect. The RDC requested that a recall be launched to remedy the affected vehicles.
JLR has received 0 claims or field reports in the USA.

ACTION TO BE TAKEN
Check the JLR Warranty Portal to make sure affected vehicles are correctly identified prior to starting this campaign. The Warranty Portal will be updated to reflect only those vehicles affected.
Retailers/authorized repairers are required to Quarantine affected new vehicles that are within your control and refrain from releasing the vehicles for new vehicle sale pending completion of the rework action. Affected vehicles already with customers should be updated at the next available opportunity. JLR North America recommends that affected sales demonstrator and loaner vehicles are repaired before use and that used vehicles are repaired before sale. Retailers/authorized repairers who choose to proceed against this recommendation, where legally permitted, must clearly and conspicuously disclose the open recall to the applicable customers.
The Safety Recall repair procedures and any required software are not currently available. A Safety Recall repair campaign will be published when all repair procedures and all required software are available. This is expected to be completed by 3rd April 2024.
Retailers/authorized repairers are reminded that they must not sell vehicles identified as affected by this campaign until such time as the repair has been successfully completed.
Yours faithfully
