CONDITION SUMMARY:
Situation: A ‘clattering’ / ‘knock’ / ‘rattle’ noise may be heard from the engine.
Cause: This may be caused by torsional isolator and/or the torsional isolator spring support shaft wear causing excessive backlash in the supercharger drive.
Action: Should a customer express this concern, follow the Service Instruction outlined below.

SERVICE INSTRUCTION:
- NOTE: Removal of the supercharger drive belt and running of the engine to verify the clattering noise is emanating from the supercharger assembly must be done prior to the fitting of a new supercharger assembly.
Remove the supercharger drive belt and rotate the supercharger pulley by hand:
- If there is a ‘clunk’ / ‘knock’ noise from the supercharger or significant free play when turning the pulley before the rotors start to turn and not one of the symptoms below, install a supercharger spring isolator kit (see TOPIx Workshop Manual, section 303-12C).
- If any of the following symptoms are present, replace the supercharger assembly. To be performed as a separate claim.
- The pulley does not rotate freely (‘sticks’, difficult to move, roughness felt in bearing); and/or
- The blades / rotors are damaged;
- and/or Customer reported excessive ‘whine’ noise.
