Chronology :
During October and November, 2022, Jaguar Land Rover
(JLR) received field reports of rear lamps not functioning correctly. These reports were analyzed through JLR’s Critical Concerns Reporting Process. Vehicle Assembly plant assessments of installation procedures was conducted through December, 2022 and January, 2023.
A Product Safety and Compliance Committee (PSCC) investigation was opened on February 17, 2023. The PSCC requested the vehicle assembly plant based Plant Quality team to fully define the scope of this issue. They reported their initial findings to the PSCC on February 28, 2023.
During March, 2023, the Plant Quality team reviewed build records to identify the specification of lamps fitted to vehicles. The Plant Quality teams assessed the functional differences of an incorrect specification tail lamp fitted to a vehicle to determine which lamps would and would not operate correctly.
On March 28, 2023, the scope was discussed along with exposure and vehicle disposition confirmed. Based on the feedback provided, the PSCC progressed the issue to the Recall Determination Committee (RDC) for review.
The RDC reviewed the issue on March 30, 2023, and concluded that it resulted in a failure to comply to FMVSS 108 with the defect leading to a possible safety risk and that a safety recall should be conducted to inspect vehicles tail lamps and where necessary replace lamps for the correct specification.
JLR has received 2 claims in the US relating to this matter on October 5, 2022, and November 23, 2022.
There have been no reported accidents, injuries or fires as a result of this concern.
