DESCRIPTION OF ISSUE
An issue has been identified on certain Jaguar vehicles within the listed Affected Vehicle Range where upon startup of the vehicle following a vehicle ‘sleep cycle’, the diagnostic check completed by the Anti-Lock Brake System Control Module (ABS) does not always complete in the required time period. When this issue occurs, the ABS and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) systems are disabled and will not operate during the drive cycle. Warning lamps will be illuminated on the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) along with related message center text alerting the driver that the ABS and DSC systems are not available. Electronic brake force distribution is not affected.
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE
A total of 2,089 vehicles are potentially involved in the USA and Federalized Territories.

Visit the British Brands Sales Suite (BBSS) website for a list of affected vehicles at your retailer.
EFFECT ON VEHICLE OPERATION
Vehicles in this condition and in a situation where the ABS and/or DSC would normally engage to ensure vehicle dynamic stability may experience an increased risk of a vehicle crash.
SERVICE PROGRAM / REWORK ACTION
Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to an authorized Jaguar retailer who will update the vehicle software to the correct specification. There will be no charge to owners for this action under this Program.
Unsold vehicles will have this done as part of the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) process and before vehicle handover to the customer.
OWNER NOTIFICATION
Owner notification is expected to occur on or before May 7, 2021.
ACTION TO BE TAKEN
Use the Jaguar Land Rover claims submission system to make sure that the vehicle is affected by this Program prior to undertaking any rework action.

SEOCONTENT-END
573.6 (c) (6) – Chronology of Events (Recall H335)
A Product Safety and Compliance Committee (PSCC) Investigation was opened on December 08, 2020, following a number of Electronic Product Quality Reports (EPQR) received from the market. The PSCC directed an engineering team to investigate the issue to discover possible causes and to determine the scope of vehicles which may be affected.
The engineering team reported back to the PSCC during December 2020 to review their initial findings. The team identified the possibility of an intermittent software timing issue in the anti-lock braking system that may occur during the startup diagnostic cycle where the vehicle has to “wake-up” from a “sleep” state. The condition was investigated to determine if the issue could cause the ABS and DSC systems to be disabled and then for how long, permanency of the issue and any recovery that may occur. The PSCC requested the team to investigate further and report back.
Through January 2021, the engineering team reported back to the PSCC the progress of the investigation. Testing was completed to further the understanding of the occurrences and replicate the condition found in vehicles reported to have the issue. The test sought to check during an ignition start-up cycle the diagnostic check of the Car Configuration File (CCF). The diagnostic checks should be completed within 15 seconds of ignition on.
The tests revealed that, on occasion, the CCF read cycles by the ABS module were not being completed in the time expected, with the diagnostic checks taking up to 25 seconds. After 15 seconds, the ABS stops transmitting and this terminates the ABS and DSC systems and a Malfunction Indicator Lamp illuminates on the instrument cluster to warn the driver the systems are not available.
The PSCC tasked engineering to confirm the scope of the issue to identify all variants of FTYPE vehicles which may be affected.
On March 02, 2021 the PSCC reviewed the scope of this issue. The PSCC progressed the issue to the Recall Determination Committee (RDC).
The RDC reviewed all information available on March 05, 2021 and concluded that, in line with market expectations, the issue represented an unreasonable risk to safety and that a voluntary safety recall be conducted.
There have been no reported accidents, injuries or fires as a result of this concern.
